REF:   Public Notice;  Total Solar Eclipse, April 8, 2024

Our first Total Solar Eclipse county-wide information and planning meeting was held at the Emory VFD Tuesday evening December 19th. A Power Point presentation, created by Texas Department of Emergency Management was shown. The presentation detailed the potential impact this event will have on Rains County, as well as surrounding counties. Most everyone was surprised at the potential effect it would have on us.
Rains County is in the direct path of the “most desirable viewing range of the Total eclipse”, which means our county and surrounding counties in the path will be visited by a large influx of visitors, seeking to view this unique event.
This event, presents numerous challenges to our county and all our resources. This meeting addressed most of those challenges and set the “planning process” in motion.
The meeting was attended by Mayors and representatives of Emory, East Tawakoni, Point and Rains County. Each jurisdiction understands and agrees to work together, unified, in this planning process, to provide the safest environment for our Rains County residents, as well as a positive experience to the visitors.
I am asking that all Rains County residents not over-react to this news. Please work with us as we collectively make plans for a Safe event
As the event date gets closer, I will be providing Official updates via the Rains County website:  co.rains.tx.us   and via Social Media in each of our cities, as well as newspaper.
